The golden snub-nosed monkey is an old-world monkey endemic to a small area in temperate, mountainous forests of central and Southwest China. Found in groups ranging in size from 5–10 individuals to bands of over 500, this primate has the ability to vary its home range depending upon the availability and distribution of food.
ziranjiti’s work with the snub-nosed monkey has been part of a long-term study of male ranging behaviour and habitat preferences – working with local honey farmers to track young male monkeys. Based on 20 years of ongoing research this work seeks to explore the origins of primate sociality, and unpack the challenges and opportunity of China as a potential powerhouse of conservation action.
